Nightline Dairy Story

On January 26, 2010, ABC World News and Nightline ran a segment focusing on animal care issues in the dairy industry. The segment focused on farm size and the specific practices of tail docking and dehorning. The segment, titled “Disturbing Reality of Dairy Land: Do you know where your milk really comes from?” can be found at http://abcnews.go.com/nightline. The story included undercover video and commentary from animal rights’ groups, questioning the ethics of animal agriculture producers.

Validus is Pleased to Announce Two Exciting New Services (October 2009)

First, Validus staff recently completed an accredited course on Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) for food processors and food related industries. As a result, our certified staffers may now develop, reassess or modify HACCP programs.

Secondly, Validus was just approved to be a Chicago Climate Exchange Approved Verifier of Agricultural Best Management Practices. Specifically, we can perform verification services for Continuous Conservation Tillage and Conversion to Grassland Soil Carbon Sequestration.

National Dairy Animal Well-Being Initiative (June 2009)

National Dairy Animal Well-Being Initiative (NDAWI) began discussions in 2006 on a set of animal welfare principles and guidelines. This national coalition developed, finalized, and approved animal welfare principles and guidelines in late 2008. One of the guidelines includes third party verification of individual on-farm animal welfare programs.

The Professional Animal Auditor Certification Organization (PAACO) has determined that the Validus Dairy Animal Welfare Review Program meets the NDAWI principles and guidelines. PAACO has also certified our auditor training and our auditors.

Our audit is third-party and provides dairy producers with peace of mind that their operation meets the principles and guidelines for NDAWI.
